Flooding can happen quickly, leaving vehicle owners with little time to react. As water levels rise, parked cars and trucks can be exposed to extensive water damage that may affect electrical systems, engines, interiors, and other critical components. In severe cases, a flooded vehicle may be rendered inoperable or considered a total loss.
Disaster Bag is a patent-pending vehicle flood protection concept designed to give vehicle owners a proactive way to prepare before floodwaters rise.
Designed to Surround and Protect the Vehicle
Unlike a conventional vehicle cover that primarily protects the exterior surfaces of a car, Disaster Bag is designed to encapsulate the vehicle.
Deployment begins by spreading the protective enclosure open on the ground. The vehicle is then driven onto the center portion of the bag. Once properly positioned, the sides of the enclosure are raised around the vehicle and secured over the roof.
The resulting enclosure is designed to provide a protective barrier between the vehicle and surrounding floodwater.
Features Designed for Flood Conditions
Disaster Bag incorporates several features intended to support its protective function.
Pressure-release valves allow trapped air to escape as the enclosure is secured around the vehicle. This helps the material conform more closely around the protected vehicle.
The design also incorporates reinforced securing and anchoring features that can help stabilize the enclosure and vehicle during changing flood conditions.
Durable waterproof materials are contemplated for the exterior construction, while the interior may incorporate softer materials intended to help protect the vehicle’s finish while enclosed.
Protection Before the Water Rises
One of the key concepts behind Disaster Bag is preparation.
Rather than waiting until floodwater has already reached a vehicle, owners can deploy the enclosure when flooding is anticipated. This may be particularly valuable for people living in flood-prone communities, coastal areas, regions affected by hurricanes and tropical storms, or locations susceptible to flash flooding and severe weather.
For many people, a vehicle is much more than an investment. It provides transportation to work, school, medical appointments, and everyday necessities. Protecting that vehicle during a flood can therefore have an impact well beyond avoiding repair costs.
An Opportunity for the Automotive and Emergency Preparedness Markets
Disaster Bag has potential applications across the automotive accessory, emergency preparedness, severe-weather protection, and disaster-preparedness markets.
The concept could provide manufacturers and licensing partners with an opportunity to develop a distinctive vehicle protection product addressing an increasingly visible problem for consumers in flood-prone areas.
