As electric vehicles become increasingly common, home charging has become part of everyday life for many drivers. But what happens when the charging station is located inside the garage and the vehicle needs to be charged outside?
Running a charging cord underneath a partially open garage door may be inconvenient and can prevent the garage from remaining completely closed.
The WallPort EV Connector is a patented concept developed to provide another option.
Installed through an exterior wall, the WallPort EV Connector creates a connection between an existing indoor EV charging station and an exterior charging point. The charging station’s cord connects to an inlet on the interior side of the WallPort. The housing extends through the wall to an exterior socket, where a second charging cord can connect to the vehicle.
This arrangement allows an EV parked outside to access the indoor charging equipment without requiring the charging cord to be routed underneath the garage door.
Protective hinged caps are also incorporated into the concept to cover the connections when they are not in use.
For manufacturers serving the EV charging, electrical equipment, automotive accessory and home improvement markets, the WallPort EV Connector represents a potentially useful addition to the growing residential EV charging ecosystem.
The WallPort EV Connector is patent pending and currently available for licensing.
